WHAT OTHER FACTOR HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF VARICOSE VEINS?

In case of a hereditary predisposition, there are other factors that also favour the development of varicose veins, including:

Obesity

Chubby legs require a larger supply of blood by the arteries. This extra supply will have to be drained back by the veins favouring in this way a circulatory overload and thus early failure of the valves.

Sedentary life style

The pump that causes the venous return is composed of the plantar pad and leg muscles. Given that a sedentary life style does not promote muscle contraction or the use of the plantar pad, there is increased stagnation of the blood and a larger valvular overload, which inevitably leads to the development of varicose veins.

Standing for long periods of time

As in a sedentary life style, there is little muscle exercise and the return system must fight against gravity.

Oral contraceptives

Oral contraceptives produce water retention and also specifically favour the failure of the valves in reticular veins. Many women feel how their hormone changes throughout the month´s cycle change the morphology of their veins. For many of these women, it is clear that their condition worsens when they get on the pill.

There are many other factors influencing varicose vein development. However, the factors described herein are the most significant:
Obesity
Sedentary lifestyle
Prolonged periods of time standing
Oral contraceptives
